A Lovely Taste of Italy

"What a lovely treat to spend the evening at this delightful restaurant. Even the waitstaff are Italian. Both the seafood pasta and lasagne were very tasty. All the wines are from their vineyards with a good selection at reasonable prices. Our only suggestion would be for the lights to be a little warmer and less bright. We highly recommend Amadio and would return if we were staying longer in Kingscote."

Fantastic Italian restaurant run by Italians!

"We went 3 dinners in a row with our kids as they keep wanting back. Delicious Italian plates including roman style pizzas which are at par to many Italian pizzerias. A great find in this remote part of the world. Service was very fast and friendly. They also have a kids menu with a good set of options. Our kids liked the milanese and the pizza margherita. Our total family of four bill ranged between 95 and 120 AUD"

Best place to eat dinner in Kingscote

"I really love to try new places, but let me tell you this, the food was so good, that we returned to dine twice! Amadio has a history steeped in Formula 1 car racing, thanks to its founder - Chef Fabio Rocco Ricciardi. Fabio was once the in-house chef for powerhouse Ferrari racing team. And thanks to him, Kangaroo Island now benefits from the traditional tastes of his Italian hometown of Modena. However when we went, I think he must have been on holiday back in Italy and it showed. The staff were seriously under the pump both in the front and back house. Yet they still delivered. Being that I am a die-hard foodie, I tried a lot of the menu items. The insalata di rucola with rocket leaves, pear, crumbed gorgonzola, walnuts and balsamic Moderna styled vinaigrette dressing was sensational. My wife threw in a side of Patatine fritte (fries with aioli and sea salt) just to see how they stacked up, and they were okay, but nothing wow. Don't tell me 7 year old son that. He wolfed them down. As far as the main course or 'Secondi', I loved the Stinco d'agnello. It was the perfect, cold weather to have a slow-braised lamb shank with its reduced red wine Napoletana sauce on top of creamy mashed pototo. On the second night I took the plunge with the Pesce all'Acqua Pazza. No pun intended but this rich seafood broth with herbs and garlic requires you to splash into it! The medley of King Prawns, mussels, squid, clams and whiting were tasty, but not quite the "home run" I wanted. I think that's my fault. I wanted something with more oomph and should have gone for a pasta option, not a soupy broth. Like the Linguine allo Scoglio that my wife ordered. This not only had the pasta I wanted, but a saute of garlic and dab of chilli to give the same seafood medley more of an uplift and kick. And if none of this was enough, my son ordered and devoured the 9 inch Focaccina, thick cruise pizza...with some help from dad who used the crust off cuts to soak up his broth! Dessert was an easy smash hit. You could pick any of them the Tiramisu, to the Affogato and Gelato. Finally, I did try some or the Amadio local red wines from Kangaroo Island and they slipped down a treat!"

Just Terrible.

"We were really excited to try this restaurant. Every other place we had visited the hospitality has been amazing. Unfortunately the staff here were too busy, and just didn’t care. One meal was an entree ordered as a main. This was brought out as an entree and then the plate was not cleared which meant the other diners mains didn’t come for over an hour. Really poor service and food was average."
